The social group that was being represented in this short film were teenagers between the ages of 15-17. The  reason for this was because our film is meant to target that specific audience and appeal to them by showing how common friendships between these groups are like. Films such as ours is a powerful medium for storytelling, and they have the ability to shed light on a range of social issues such as the one we represent in our film. The social issues in our film could be interpreted as a representation of the impact of mental health issues on individuals and their relationships with others. With our character Erica, she represents those who are without a voice and need the help of others to help guide them instead of leaving them in the dark, which is what our title “The Unseen” closely refers to. The lack of attention towards a friend who needs help can highlight the importance of recognizing and addressing mental health issues in society as a whole. Additionally, with what Erica

Another Filming Day

Image
We have now reached our second day of filming and this time we were definitely ready to film and get more than one scene finished. The last time we filmed we encountered many issues that disrupted with our filming process, one of the major issues was the fact that the mall had closed before we were able to complete any other scenes. We did manage to get a few seconds of one but it was nearly enough for us to progress thoroughly with our production process and we needed to overcome this issue immediately. We all planned to meet up at an earlier time, this time we actually checked what time the mall was going to close so with that information we estimated the amount of time we would need to film our scenes before the mall closes. We also picked a different day from what we had picked last time just to see if the crowd levels in the mall may be less overwhelming than the day we had picked, which was also a problem we were met with the last time we filmed. The less people in the mall, th

Revising the Production

Image
Today was an exciting day for me as we were continuing our film production. The group was looking forward to revising and changing the script and storyboard, which is a crucial aspect of the production process. I enjoy this part of the process because it allows to adjust any logistical issues that may arise during filming. Sometimes, ideas that seem good on paper may not work well in person, and this is where revisions come in handy. We are students, and our budget for this film is low. Therefore, we have to ensure that everything we plan can be executed without any unexpected costs or inconvenience. As a result, we had to scrap a part of the script that seemed like too much work and replace it with a more cost-friendly option. We had also realized that some of the dialogue in the script sounded forced and unnatural. Therefore, I decided to change it to more casual and fitting lines. My aim was to create a story that is both grounded and fantastical. We wanted to strike a balance betwe

Filming Process

Image
I was really looking forward to filming at the mall with my group. We had been planning for weeks and I was eager to start recording some scenes. As soon as we got there, I quickly set up the equipment we needed to start filming. We managed to record a few seconds of one scene, but unfortunately, the mall closed early, which forced us to postpone some of the other scenes. Even though we only captured half of one scene, I wish we could have covered more footage according to our storyboard. Transportation was the toughest part of the filming process, as all of us had to figure out a way to get there. However, we have another date to film and in the meantime, I will be editing the footage we captured. I anticipate that we should be able to cover 2 to 3 scenes in our next filming session. The mall was quite crowded at first, but fortunately, as time passed, fewer people were around. This allowed us to film without many disturbances from the outside. However, it was still a challenge tryi

Delay in filming…

Image
Our group was supposed to film last week for our short film, but unfortunately, we had to cancel due to busy schedules and limited access to transportation. As we are a group of four, it is often difficult to get everyone in one place, especially with after-school activities and parents having to work. While this was an inconvenience that slowed down our production, we knew it was predictable and that we would have to adapt to it. Therefore, we decided to reschedule filming for this week instead. Since the delay, we have been productive in managing our time and have discussed ideas for future filming. However, one issue that has come up is the location. There are certain places where filming is not allowed, and unfortunately, there's not much we can do about it. In such cases, we have decided to improvise with the environment by filming in an alternate store or parking lot. We are confident that we will be able to work around any obstacles that come our way during production. Our

Planning

Image
The location of the short film will take place in a mall. While the specifics of the address are still uncertain, some usable and popular ideas include coral ridge mall, broward mall, sawgrass mall, etc. The schedule will likely involve us traveling to our filming location after school since we can all meet up easily, rather than on the weekends when we'd all need separate rides to and from the mall. The participants will be Melvin Amaya, Jason Pierre, Withly Pierrette, Jennifer Depaz, and potentially another person outside of the project if extra help with filming is required. Due to us filming at a mall, it can get crowded quickly, to prevent anyone from getting lost we will stick only to our designated filming locations and not wander off. Additionally, we all have each other's contact information in case of an emergency. This pitch for our film is intended on being low-budget and will not require many, if any props aside from a camera. For costumes, we are planning on wea
