Genre Decision Blogs

My Group and I have chosen mystery as out final genre decision. This genre has potential into becoming something very fun and interesting for our film. We acknowledge that it might be a bit common but the genre is probably the best and easiest choice for us to make since It’s a versatile genre meaning we can do a lot of things with it and change it to many ways. It’s also easy to do as it doesn’t require many props or money. It would be really simple, easy and we can add a lot more to it to keep our audience engaged and entertained. This genre can be a standout compared to other genres like comedy and can have the audience at the edge of their seats wanting for more since mystery can make people feel tense and still create a movie with great energy and vibes. We were debating between Drama, horror and mystery but we ended up with mystery since we believed drama is very common and the ideas we had for it weren't very original. Most drama movies leave you with cliffhangers and most of us aren't really big fans of sequels. We didn't choose horror because the amount of cliches that are added into most horror movies. We considered choosing horror because it can leave you stunned due to the amount of gore and blood most horror movies have along with the lingering feeling of questioning your sanity in believing what is real and what isn't. We also didn't want to chose horror due to the most used way to scare the audience is through jumpscares and most jumpscares are very predictable. Even though horror was a nice option we all agreed Mystery won. Some of my group mates like mystery due to the suspense that comes with solving the mystery in the movie. What I personally like in mystery is that there are no jumpscares and the suspense keeps me at the edge of my seat wondering what is going to happen next. Other group mates decided to go with mystery as well because they enjoy the genre because of its puzzle solving nature and putting the pieces together to keep the audience engaged and wanting to see if they're right on their theories but what they don't like about mysteries is the fact that it might end in an anti climatic way or the mystery is just way too obvious from the start and it feels like you've already watched the whole movie.
